Within our Product Characterisation Team, we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed candidate to join us as Product Characterisation Scientist – Sitting within our Group Science and Regulatory Affairs department, this permanent position is ideally suited to someone with a strong scientific background who has an interest in science data analytics and experience in project coordination with a strong ability to collaborate across a broad range of departments.

As Product Characterisation Scientist you will conduct scientific studies to enable Imperial Brands to launch, protect and defend its Next Generation Product portfolio (E-Vapour Products, Heated tobacco Products and Oral Nicotine Delivery). Design chemical testing approaches to meet the company’s duty of care obligations and the needs of regulatory submissions. Contributing to scientific studies that support and substantiate Imperial Brands’ meaningful contribution to tobacco harm reduction. Direct the testing of products both internally and with external contract research organisations. Interpret and communicate scientific data via technical reports and PowerPoint presentations to a wide range of stakeholders across Imperial Brands’ and with external stakeholders.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Act as product characterisation Subject Matter Expert on a range of projects covering our Next Generation Product categories (E-Vapour Products, Heated Tobacco Products and Oral Nicotine Delivery), and other Regulatory and Research projects.
  • Design and lead scientific protocols to understand the chemical and physical product characteristics of Imperial Brands’ Next Generation product portfolio.
  • Manage contract research organisation and internal laboratory stakeholders to ensure timely completion of scientific studies such as stability, emissions, extractables and Leachable investigations.
  • Assess, evaluate and interpret data to support product launch and defence.
  • Utilise software for data visualisation and statistical analysis in order to provide associated narratives and key messages for varied target audiences.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Data analysis and statistical analysis evaluation knowledge.
  • Strong and proven project coordination and ability to foster cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and intellectual curiosity
  • Experience in stability (shelf-life testing)
  • Technical report writing experience
  • Practical Analytical Chemistry experience with an analytical mindset
