The Role

Imperial Brands, an inclusive, innovative global FMCG business supported by 25,000 employees is looking for a Senior Manager - Global Internal Controls.

This role will be responsible for managing the Financial Compliance Team to ensure a robust internal control framework is in place by means of performing a range of control assurance activities within Finance scope across the Market and Factory footprint.

We continue to strengthen our existing capabilities by establishing a dedicated Compliance Centre of Capability function as part of our wider Governance, Risk & Compliance operating model.

The GBS Compliance function will provide, as well as facilitate, consistent and comprehensive assurance to Retained, GBS and Group Management over key operational and compliance risks through performing control testing as well as consistently and efficiently executing control monitoring activities.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Engage and Build Relationships with Stakeholders: Regularly collaborate with senior stakeholders across clusters and factories in defining assurance responsibilities, while developing strong rapport with global and regional teams to establish trust and partnership.
  • Strengthen Risk and Control Frameworks: Support updates to the Risk and Controls Matrix, embed controls into daily operations, and contribute to policy discussions by proposing updates to address challenges and inquiries.
  • Build and Develop a High-Performing Team: Recruit and lead a skilled team of Business Assurance Specialists, fostering a globally aligned, consistent control environment while ensuring training, motivation, and knowledge sharing to drive employee engagement and team growth. Identify and collaborate in execution of training programs to provide appropriate education and guidance to the team ensuring employees have adequate awareness and understanding of internal control standards and requirements.
  • Promote Continuous Improvement and Career Growth: Identify improvement opportunities, share lessons learned, and implement succession planning and career development initiatives to strengthen team capabilities and sustain long-term success.
  • Strengthen Communication, Policy Management, and Control Testing: Develop communication strategies for consistent application of standards and controls, coordinate policy dispensation processes to secure 2nd Line approvals, and establish robust control testing approaches with outsourced service partners.
  • Ensure Timely Delivery and Quality Assurance: Oversee GBS Compliance CoC testing and monitoring activities to meet Service Level Agreements, ensuring timely, on-budget delivery and robust quality assurance of all tasks performed by Business Assurance Specialists.
  • Promote Strategic Improvements and Drive Insights: Participate in strategic discussions to drive automation and efficiency improvements, leverage creative solutions using existing tools. Implement internal gap data collection, conduct lessons-learned exercises, and deliver insightful compliance reports to GBS management, outlining achieved compliance levels, remedial actions, and risk mitigation strategies.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience and understanding of accounting and auditing standards/principles, including experience in defining, designing and/or testing financial controls.
  • Significant leadership experience in internal controls or audit with demonstrated skills in the application of concepts and best practices.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate team members, prioritize projects, and drive continuous improvement within the function.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as business partnership skills.
  • Ability to independently research, analyse and interpret data.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within a multi-national matrix organization, flexibility in handling conflicting priorities working under strict deadlines.
  • English fluent, both spoken and written.
