The Role

Reporting to the Channel Sales Manager, this is a great opportunity to make your mark while building strong, long‑term relationships with key customers.

With an internal move, we’re now looking for a Key Account Manager - Metcash to step into a highly visible and strategic role. You’ll take ownership of an important account and play a meaningful part in its ongoing success, while also having the opportunity to coach and mentor developing talent within the business.

Success in this role will set you up for future career progression within the business. You’ll be responsible for identifying sales growth opportunities aligned to business objectives and delivering clear plans to unlock value across the account.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Developing tailored portfolio plans for Metcash, covering pricing, promotions, volume growth, and market share across key categories
  • Driving profitable sales growth across both existing ranges and new opportunities within the Metcash network
  • Leading category reviews and new line presentations to support independent retailers and banner strategies
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with Metcash stakeholders and internal teams to deliver shared outcomes
  • Conducting competitive and promotional analysis to inform range, pricing, and activation decisions

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working strategically with a major customer, understands the independent retail landscape, and thrives on turning insight into commercial results.

Skills and Experience Required

  • National account experience: At least three years’ experience managing large grocery or convenience accounts, with an understanding of how national customers like Metcash operate.

  • Strong commercial thinking: Ability to understand numbers, margins, and performance data, and use this information to make sound business decisions that drive profitable growth.

  • Clear and confident communication: Comfortable presenting ideas, influencing stakeholders, and communicating clearly with customers, sales teams, and internal partners.

  • Contract negotiation and relationship management: Proven experience negotiating agreements while building strong, long‑term client relationships based on trust and collaboration.

  • Multi‑channel promotion skills: Experience promoting products and initiatives through different channels, including social media, digital platforms, and professional business networks.
