The Role

As Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting legal matters across both the Australian and New Zealand businesses. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel and working as part of the broader Corporate & Legal Affairs Team, you will provide practical, commercially focused legal advice that enables business objectives while effectively managing legal and regulatory risk.

This is a hands-on role where you will partner with stakeholders across the organisation, offering strategic guidance on a broad range of legal matters and helping to ensure the business operates in a compliant and responsible manner.

You will be a trusted advisor to the Senior Legal Counsel, Head of Corporate & Legal Affairs, and key business leaders, contributing to business decisions, supporting projects and initiatives, and fostering a strong culture of governance and compliance across Australia and New Zealand.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Provide commercially focused legal and regulatory advice to business stakeholders across Australia and New Zealand, supporting strategic decision-making and risk management.
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and manage a broad range of commercial agreements, including customer supply contracts, trading terms, and supplier agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations, including competition law, privacy and data protection requirements, industry regulations, and corporate governance obligations.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks by monitoring legislative developments, advising on external communications, and partnering with external legal counsel where required.
  • Support and promote a strong compliance culture through the development and delivery of training programs, policy reviews, regulatory reporting, and compliance initiatives across the business.
  • Provide practical, audience-focused legal advice that resolves complex issues and disputes in a timely manner while balancing legal risk with broader commercial objectives.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Australian-qualified lawyer with 3+ years' PQE, gained in a top or mid-tier law firm and/or a large corporate or FMCG environment.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, Australian Consumer Law, competition law, and privacy legislation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across all levels of the business.
  • Commercially astute, organised, and able to effectively balance legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills; experience within a highly regulated industry is advantageous.
