The Role

Location: London, UK / Tarnowo Podgórne, PL

Imperial Brands is looking for a Senior Engineer to provide specialist technical expertise across coding, serialisation and track-and-trace systems within our global manufacturing network.

These technologies are essential to ensuring that products are uniquely identified, traceable and compliant with local regulatory and taxation requirements. The role will support systems that assign unique codes to individual packs, link products through bundles and cases, and provide end-to-end visibility across the manufacturing and distribution process.

You will work closely with manufacturing sites, equipment suppliers, system integrators and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver coding and track-and-trace solutions for new production lines, factory expansion projects and new manufacturing facilities.

Alongside project delivery, you will help shape our long-term global strategy by developing standardised, reliable and scalable solutions that can support multiple markets and regulatory requirements. This is a global individual contributor role with significant technical influence and no direct line management responsibility.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Provide technical leadership for global coding, serialisation and track-and-trace projects, including new production lines, factory expansions and new manufacturing facilities.
  • Deliver specialist engineering expertise across printing, laser marking, labelling, serialisation, aggregation and production-line tracking technologies.
  • Support the full project lifecycle, including requirements definition, technical design, supplier selection, implementation, commissioning, testing and optimisation.
  • Develop and maintain global technical standards, engineering guidance and best practice to ensure consistent, compliant and reliable deployment across manufacturing sites.
  • Work closely with equipment manufacturers, system integrators and technology partners to evaluate solutions, resolve technical challenges and assess supplier performance.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve compliance, reliability, operational efficiency and sustainability, including reductions in energy consumption, resource use and production waste.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Strong technical experience in coding, serialisation, track and trace, or product identification systems within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience within tobacco manufacturing is highly desirable; however, candidates from regulated FMCG, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, packaging or similarly automated production environments will also be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial automation technologies, including printing systems, laser marking, labelling equipment, production-line integration and associated control systems.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering complex engineering projects through the design, implementation, commissioning and continuous improvement stages.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with manufacturing sites, suppliers and cross-functional stakeholders across different countries and cultures.
  • Fluent English communication skills, with the ability to translate technical and regulatory requirements into practical manufacturing solutions and influence decisions without formal authority.
