The role

The role of Senior Project Manager or Project Manager is a new role within the Next Generation Products (NGP) organization of Imperial Brands. Reporting to the NGP Category Directors, this role will have global remit and will support the deployment of our new launches and innovation projects across our markets.

In the role of (Senior) Project Manager, you are working in close collaboration with the Category Director. You are responsible for the governance, design, planning, risk management and follow up of the execution of these projects, applying the appropriate project management processes, methods, tools, and techniques. You will deliver the result to the defined scope and quality, on time, on budget, and in line with the business objectives so that it achieves the expected business outcomes. Your focus will be on enabling and ensuring project management practice is applied consistently and thoroughly throughout the entire process, to ensure the successful delivery of strategically important pilots, scale up and new product launches. 

In this role you will be working closely with the NGP Category Project Leads, NGP supporting management functions, Region & Clusters, managing multiple complex projects concurrently. You will have the opportunity to engage at multiple level of the organisation including various market teams and Executive Leaders.

This role can be based in the UK or in Amsterdam.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead the end-to-end project delivery of all non ideation-to-launch NGP initiatives to the time, cost and quality requirements, working closely with Category Project Leads, Region & Clusters and supporting NGP management functions;
  • Create and maintain the end-to-end project plan, including highlighting the critical path and ensuring any variances that impact upon it are communicated to the Category Project Lead;
  • Create and maintain of all project level documentation (budget, risk & issues, resource, change, action etc.), including highlighting any material variances from plan to Category Project Lead;
  • Ensure all required input is gathered, collated and shared with the relevant audience from project teams, to enable creation of project progress reports;
  • Coordinate, facilitate and document E2E project planning workshops;
  • Coordinate, facilitate and document stage gate project team meetings to gather required input for stage gate forums;
  • Coordinate, facilitate and document weekly stand up meetings with workstream/delivery leads;
  • Coordinate, facilitate and document ad hoc project meetings as required (risk management, lessons learnt, best practice etc.);
  • Liaise closely with Category Project Leads to ensure all project planning and reporting is understood, accurate and any potential risks or issues are highlighted on time with the right audience;
  • Actively identify, mitigate, and escalate (as appropriate) any key risks associated with other (interdependent) NGP category innovation pipeline projects;
  • Identify and share recommendations with the right audience, resulting from analysis and reporting of the project strategy & progress vs. business objectives;
  • Work closely with Category Project Leads to ensure project lessons learnt are captured, shared and fed into the appropriate pre aligned feedback loop following project/pilot closure, Scale up or BAU process;
  • Initiate, scope & define the project deliverables that will deliver the expected business outcomes;
  • Support the development of project business cases and steward the proposed project through business and governance for sign-off to proceed;
  • Ensure effective project governance and reporting, in line with business programme and project management standards;
  • Lead, support and motivate the project team;
  • Recognises, escalates and resolves risks and issues. Uses strong business relationships and stakeholder management, build strong working relationships with key stakeholders and/or enablers;
  • Proactively seeks new and/or improved ways of working;
  • Identify and manage dependencies with other projects and key business activities;
  • Preparing and maintaining an overall schedule for resource use, which avoids bottlenecks and conflicting demands, sequencing outcomes, to enable the efficient realisation of benefits;
  • Ensure the controlled hand-over of the completed project deliverables to business functions;
  • Completes lessons learnt during and after project completion.

Skills and experience required

  • Educated to degree level in relevant field;
  • Professional Project Management Qualification (e.g. Prince 2, PMP), Project Management Institute (PMI), Project Management Professional (PMP), APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) certification or equivalent certification;
  • Minimum of 2-3 years full time Senior Project or Program Management experience, managing product development projects in an FMCG environment;
  • Proven track record in management of digital projects (CX, digital program, customer care, etc.);
  • Project managing innovation or product development projects in a heavy regulated environment;
  • Building strong collaborative and influential relationships with a range of international stakeholders, without having formal authority;
  • Effectively planning, managing, monitoring and reporting on multiple global projects simultaneously;
  • Track record and proven ability in managing the end-to-end delivery of cross-functional and cross-geography projects;
  • Effectively managing and escalating risks in complex, pioneering projects;
  • Excellent working knowledge of managing constrained project plans and managing its critical path;
  • Experience of successfully coordinating remote teams, spread across multiple time zones;
  • Working with professional project management tools;
  • Experience with third party consultancies, contractors, suppliers and agencies;
  • Proactive, empathic and transparent Collaboration & Management style;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving capabilities, and comfortable with uncertainty;
  • High commercial awareness;
  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills.
