Imperial Brands, a multinational FTSE 100 FMCG company, has a vacancy for a talented in-house Regulatory Counsel to join its Group Legal Brand & Product Regulation (BPR) team in its Bristol headquarters. The BPR team’s key responsibilities include providing high-quality commercially aligned advice on evolving regulations and other issues related to product and brand compliance across conventional tobacco and Next Generations product categories. Reporting to the Senior Regulatory & Commercial Counsel, the role has a strong regulatory focus and requires the role holder to have the ability to think “out of the box” whilst applying commercial understanding. It involves a high degree of flexibility working with stakeholders at all levels from Group functions, Strategic Business Units and markets to provide direct advice or second line of defence support on product regulatory issues.

Key accountabilities

  • Assisting with the assessment of new product developments (across our full product portfolio), including the development of Group guidance materials and 2nd line of defence argumentation papers in line with the business’ needs and strategy
  • Assisting with the assessment of evolving regulations of Group importance, including the development of regulatory engagement positions in line with the business’ needs and strategy
  • Procuring regulatory advice for product launches and supporting marketing activities, including assessing the risk profile of each project
  • Managing the maintenance of regulatory market launch maps across product categories
  • Providing support to our Tobacco Max business on global initiatives
  • Creating and delivering training on core regulatory issues to various stakeholders within the Group
  • Representing the Group’s interests in regulatory matters in manufacturers’ association and cross-industry workgroups

Skills & experience

  • A qualified solicitor with 2-5 years’ relevant experience with FMCG and / or Life Science sector gained from within the UK or another European jurisdiction, and a strong working knowledge of English and/or European consumer protection laws.
  • A broad set of legal skills, including the ability to provide confident advice to all levels of stakeholders
  • High levels of organisation, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Analytical thinking and strong creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills and the ability to work within teams and across multiple disciplines and cultures
  • Fluency in written and verbal English; a working knowledge of a second European language would be beneficial
  • IT Skills: Working knowledge of Excel and Power Point
  • Some occasional overseas travel involved in the role
