The role

Imperial Brands is currently undergoing a strategic transformation to become a consumer-centric organisation and the new Global Insight function will be a crucial driving force behind this change, placing consumer preferences and demands at the centre of commercial decision making in order to gain competitive advantage.

The role delivers actionable, commercially-sound recommendations to inform and influence business decision-making within the Cluster, by business partnering with the in-Cluster CCO and/or Sales & Trade function. The role is accountable for delivering insights related to: business planning, performance management, forecasting & brand insights (if a Consumer specialist) and/or sales & trade performance reviews, tactical pricing, trade insights and evaluation (if a Sales & Trade specialist).

This is achieved by combining a deep understanding of the commercial, consumer and regulatory realities within each market in the cluster, with an expert knowledge of relevant insight techniques, in order to drive data lead and consumer focused decision making.

The Cluster Insight Manager within Imperial's Global Insight function, is an Insight Business Partner  embedded in and working closely with the Cluster business team, specialising in either Consumer insights and / or Sales & Trade insights.

This role reports to and supports the Cluster Head of Insight, delivering proactive business partnering across markets to meet stakeholders' insight requirements,  in accordance with best practice standards and processes.

Key accountabilities

Consumer Specialists:

  • Business partner to in-Cluster Leaders and their teams, representing the voice of the consumer and customer at key decision-making forums
  • Accountable for delivering insights relating to: business planning, performance management (including strategic pricing investments), and forecasting and brand insights

Sales & Trade Specialists:

  • Business partner to in-Cluster Leaders, their teams including trade and sales stakeholders, representing the customer and consumer at key decision-making forums
  • Accountable for delivering insights relating to: sales & trade performance reviews, tactical pricing (and triggering escalation), trade insights and initiative evaluation

All Cluster Insight Managers:

  • Collate and prioritise insight needs amongst business stakeholders, working with the Head of Cluster Insights to deliver priority needs, and identify resourcing and capability requirements.
  • Translate business needs into robust insight requirements that can be used to shape the design and execution of insight projects
  • Make best use of central, self-serve resources such as the global Insight Hub, best-practice toolkits, reporting templates etc, developing an expert understanding of how these work.
  • For more complex or bespoke priority needs, draw on specialist knowledge and resources from central CMI, research, data and analytics teams by submitting a business case, or assisting the Head of Cluster Insights in doing so.
  • Articulate how insights contribute to the achievement of Imperial Brands’ strategy, individual team and market strategies, as well as in delivering a clear view of consumer needs and commercial economics to aid decision making.
  • Provide actionable, commercially sound and data driven recommendations. Will use independent consumer insights to guide / drive data driven decision making and challenge perceptions when required
  • Will assist stakeholders with regards to next steps, e.g. refining solutions, building business cases etc.
  • Responsibility for delivering consistently high-quality insight outputs, in accordance with centrally-set standards and within agreed delivery timescales / terms of the SLA.
  • Support the Head of Cluster Insights in leading the cluster insight team; developing talent and coaching Insight Analyst(s).


Skills and experience required


  • Strong knowledge of insight techniques across (a) brand, marketing and forecasting and / or (b) sales, trade and pricing, depending on focus. Ability to apply innovation learnings to inform NPD / product launches
  • Experience of managing insight within in a market or cluster insight function – or equivalent role
  • Strong analysis skills: can work with multiple data sources, prioritise key areas of investigation, and apply a sound interpretation to findings
  • Adept at using storytelling to clearly communicate insights in a persuasive, articulate and engaging way, challenging stakeholder perspectives
  • Able to develop close stakeholder relationships whilst applying an objective, insight-driven lens to key business problems
  • Highly skilled in combining multiple insight findings with deep market knowledge to drive commercially-sound recommendations
  • Ability to embrace change in established operational techniques and practices
  • Adept with technologies and digital solutions to meet stakeholder needs efficiently
  • Comfortable with working virtually and in person across different geographies, timezones and/or languages
  • Enthusiasm for coaching and knowledge transfer to others across their team
  • Collaborative mindset, keen to play an active role in the global Insight community


  • Educated to degree level
  • Proven record of delivering and synthesising insight across multiple markets
  • Proven record of demonstrating the commercial value of insight
