The role

We are currently recruiting for an BI integration product manager within Imperial's global insight function. The position will be based in our Bristol Head office, with your time split between office and remote working.

Within your role you would be owning the central data lake product, a key asset in Imperial's insight strategy, you will be providing the foundations for creating actionable insight to globally-set standards, and helping elevate insight to become a competitive differentiator for Imperial

A new Global Insight function will be the central driving force behind this change, placed at the very heart of commercial decision-making within Imperial.

Within the global insight services team, the role of the Data Strategy and Governance team is to transform how we use consumer data, driving standardised best practice across the business.

Your role is to own the onboarding of data into the new data lake, a central environment on which delivery of insight across all geographies will ultimately be based. By successfully bringing more markets on-board to the central data lake, your actions will set the pace at which centralised reporting and insight can be executed efficiently across the organisation in line with best-practice standards

Key accountabilities

  • Design and manage the overall plan for moving markets’ individual data into the central Data Lake. Responsible for bringing new markets on board, managing setup and individual needs as well as execution from 3rd party suppliers
  • Prioritise specific data to be housed in the global Data Lake, based on agreed criteria (e.g. global strategic requirements, commercial value of data etc)
  • Brief Global IT Services and 3rd party providers (e.g. Redkite) on agreed data requirements for insight, translating priority business requests into technical language. Make sure that they then action requests and provide answers to technical questions, to meet the needs of data end users
  • Work with Group IT and external delivery partners to define best practice data ‘frameworks’ that structure and organise how data sources are used in combination to drive insight generation across specific business processes; ensure that data is structured in the data lake in accordance with agreed frameworks
  • Responsible for data quality and integrity used by insights teams as provided by the data lake, liaising with the central data function and/or suppliers to resolve issues
  • Cultivate strong working relationship with users of data - everyone from individual market business partners to the central heads of analytics and research. Set expectations, and ensure different stakeholders are bought in with data prioritisation decisions
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues, as well as acting as first point of contact for anyone with a request involving the data lake
  • Working with delivery partners and end users design the front end reporting system to be utilised to share reporting, BI systems and research with the business. Act as business owner for the reporting system supporting our delivery partners on the project build.
  • Assist the Interim Data & Reporting Lead in improving business data literacy across the organisation
  • Raise awareness of the central data lake and insight hub, as part of the internal comms strategy for data

Skills & experience

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of the technical elements of BI (business intelligence), including dataset mapping, data pipelines etc
  • Highly experienced with identifying, structuring and storing data to meet insight needs
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Infectious enthusiasm for data and insights, with a continual thirst for learning, challenging and innovating.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, to manage and set expectations across multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to speak the language of both data/tech/analytics and business insights. Can bring together perspectives e.g. from both sides of the supplier / provider relationship, and challenge each to reach the best outcome
  • Comfortable with both the depths of technical detail (e.g. individual data points) and the bigger picture (e.g. overall data strategies, end-to-end setup processes for the data lake)

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meeting an ambitious schedule for the centralisation and standardisation of data/insights

Desirable:

  • Has previously led the design, setup and delivery of data lakes, warehouses or equivalent environments
