Imperial Brands currently have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist to join our well-established UK insights & Intelligence team at our UK head office in Bristol. Reporting to the UK Intelligence & Analytics Manager, the primary focus of the Data Scientist is to support the cluster in delivering its sales and marketing objectives, be that improving our products, optimising our marketing and pricing initiatives or making the business run better by modelling and automating processes. The successful candidate will have Strong knowledge of and experience working with Python.

Key accountabilities

Use lots of data sources

  • Interrogate internal databased to gather data on (e.g., using SQL)
  • Identify and collect other third-party data sources
  • Establish new data feeds where required
  • Ensure all relevant information is collected including where necessary negotiation with relevant internal and external stakeholders

 

Identify patterns and trends in data

  • Using relevant statistical techniques, identify trends and patterns in data (e.g. pattern recognition, trend analysis)
  • Establish the significance of trends / patterns and the root causes
  • Identify risks and opportunities and make recommendations to the business to mitigate risks or take advantage of opportunities

 

Identify drivers of performance

  • Analyse data (e.g., sales) to identify the key drivers behind any changes
  • Create robust statistical models based on these analyses

 

Model the impact of options, selecting the optimal paths to recommend

  • Use these statistical models to predict the impact of recommended actions and initiatives
  • Run multiple scenario simulations to produce recommendations on the optimal actions

 

Conduct analysis of our consumers and customers

  • Analyse the behaviour, characteristics and purchasing patterns / spend for our consumers and customers (e.g., propensity modelling)
  • Make recommendations for marketing and sales activity tailored to relevant consumer segments and aimed at increasing sales, reducing churn, increasing lifetime value etc.

 

Evaluate the impact of our B2B and B2C initiatives and activities

  • Evaluate the impact of initiatives including metrics such as ROI and results vs expectations / forecasts
  • Make recommendations for changes to activities / initiatives
  • Make informed recommendations for future use of initiatives / activities by target segment and outcome required / budget available

Skills & experience

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of and experience working with Python
  • Proven working experience as a data analyst or business data analyst (Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy)
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages and databases (SQL, PowerBI etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (SPSS, SAS, r Studio/r etc.) and how these apply in a business setting
  • Experience in at least one scripting languages (Python, R ) including version control and repositories (Git, MS Azure DevOps etc.)
  • Experience of using Databricks and MS Azure Data Factory

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of using and / or building reports in PowerBI
  • Experience analyzing CRM data including campaign evaluation
  • Experience using Google Analytics
