Imperial Brands currently have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist to join our well-established UK insights & Intelligence team at our UK head office in Bristol. Reporting to the UK Intelligence Manager, the primary focus of the Data Scientist is to support the cluster in delivering its sales and marketing objectives, be that improving our products, optimising our marketing and pricing initiatives or making the business run better by modelling and automating processes.

Key accountabilities

  • Ensure all relevant information is collected through negotiation with relevant internal and external stakeholders, interrogate of internal databases, collecting third-party data or, working with the data engineer and IT teams, establishing new data feeds where required
  • Using relevant statistical techniques, create models to identify trends and patterns in data and the root causes of the changes
  • Create statistical models to predict the impact of recommended actions and initiatives such as price changes and activations. Run multiple scenario simulations to produce recommendations on the optimal actions
  • Analyse the behaviour, characteristics and purchasing patterns / spend for our consumers and customers (e.g. propensity modelling)
  • Effectively communicate the results of your analyses and make presecriptive recommendations for marketing and sales activity tailored to relevant consumer segments
  • Evaluate the impact of initiatives including metrics such as ROI and results vs expectations / forecasts

Skills & experience

  • Proven working experience as a data analyst or business data analyst (Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy)
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Ideally some working knowledge of and experience with reporting packages and databases (SQL, PowerBI etc.) but this is not essential
  • Extensive knowledge of statistics, statistical models and experience using statistical packages for analysing datasets (SPSS, SAS, r Studio/r etc.)
  • Experience in at least one of the coding languages (Python etc.)
  • Experience of using Apache Spark, Scala, Databricks (Spark R), Azure Logic Apps or MS Azure Data Factory
