The role

This role is a Junior-Mid level position within a team of 4, and has a hybrid set-up 50% site based and 50% remote. We are accepting candidates who can commute to Liverpool (or alternatively depending on location, as we also have a Bristol based office for candidates located nearer to Bristol.) This role involves Product Characterisation scientific studies to enable IMB to launch, protect & defend its NGP & Combustible portfolio and influence the development of science based regulation and product/technical standards. We are looking for a Junior-Mid level professional with a degree / study background within Analytical Chemistry, or Chemistry related field relevancy, with some experience in a relevant role to understand how a product is formed, how it interacts, and to perform & coordinate testing. Training can be offered on products, so it is more important to have the right academic background, interest, and willingness to learn. You will be helping to design chemical testing approaches to meet needs of the regulatory submissions; direct the testing of products both internally and with external contract research organisations (CROs); interpret and communicate the scientific data to a wide range of stakeholders across IMB and with external stakeholders (e.g. national and international standardisation bodies). Contribute necessary chemistry studies that support and substantiate Imperial Brands’ meaningful contribution to tobacco harm reduction

Key accountabilities

1. Act as product characterisation on a range of projects covering I2L NGP, PMTA and other Regulatory and Research projects. 2. Contribute to designing scientific protocols to understand the chemical and physical product characteristics of IMB NGP portfolio and identify NGP with substantially reduced risk profile. Assess, evaluate and interpret data to support product launch and defence. Interpretation and packaging of data with associated narratives and key messages. 3. Contribute to the development of scientific research of IMB NGP portfolio to challenge and ensure that proposed regulations / product standards development are based on robust and scientifically substantiated argumentation and develop strong messaging to proposals that undermine tobacco harm reduction. 4. Create innovative solutions to effectively manage the impact of current and future regulations on commercial portfolio and laboratories workload. 5. Protect and defend NGP business interests by providing to the business in-depth research support, specialist guidance, and advocacy on relevant issues 6. Engage with the scientific, public health, and regulatory communities through face-to-face meetings, regulatory filings, publications in scientific literature, participation in scientific conferences and product standardisation forums where we present our research and company positions 7. Work in close collaboration with Scientific Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Affairs and other relevant functions to communicate findings of product characterisation science both internally and externally

Skills & experience

• A Degree in appropriate scientific discipline. • Some demonstrated experience in a product characterisation study design, with a knowledge and passion for science, technology and regulatory affairs • Statistical evaluation knowledge and data interpretation. • Strong and proven project management and external collaborations skills • Creative thinking and intellectual curiosity paired with a strong ability to understand complex relationships • Solutions focussed with ability to prioritise as appropriate • Ability to communicate easily across cultures and organisational levels. • Strong relationship building skills and ability to foster cross-functional collaboration • Strong influencing skills and experience e.g. negotiating & driving clarity with external suppliers • Constructively challenges to drive results
