The location for this role can be Bristol or Brussels with hybrid working

The role

The Corporate Affairs Executive EU will be responsible for supporting the Head of Corporate Affairs EU on a day-to-day basis with all research and information management requirements.

You will work independently to track policy developments, develop research and argumentation papers as well as engagement material for markets on a wide range of topics, tailor generic engagement materials to specific market needs and liaise with other Group functions.

You will also be responsible for monitoring tobacco / nicotine control activities seeking to influence EU policy and create an early warning system to flag developing themes, thus playing an important role in delivering Imperial Brand’s public policy objectives in the European Union’s institutions and among other EU stakeholders.

You will help execute plans to further these objectives in Brussels and contribute internally to the development of our EU advocacy strategies, positions and materials.

On occasion, the Corporate Affairs Executive will represent the company in industry associations and at relevant events and liaise with EU institutions and business organisations. The role will report to the Head of Corporate Affairs EU.

Principle accountabilities

Monitoring and analysing regulation

  • analyse and process information on respective regulation, across our EU footprint
  • track and capture in an appropriate and uniform manner policy developments in the EU as well as NGO activity for an in-depth understanding of the political and regulatory issues
  • support work and engagement on selected EU files, ensuring seamless information flow between all relevant stakeholders
  • develop & maintain a database/tracker for an in-depth understanding of the political and regulatory issues
  • liaising with internal stakeholders as necessary (e.g. markets, other Group function) to verify information and clarify open questions
  • support the development and maintenance of online internal platforms (Intranet-based) with accurate and updated regulatory information

Development of advocacy material

  • contribute internally to the development of our advocacy materials and messaging
  • translate regulation (technical requirements) into easy to understand communications
  • prepare written briefs and perform ad-hoc research
  • prepare presentations and other key support materials for the team, including the development of policy infographics for use at market level

Corporate Affairs Functional support

  • develop appropriate internal communications, supporting the delivery of a variety of conference calls, webinars and internal reports
  • support in the delivery of key Corporate Affairs events, such as workshops and global conferences

Skills and Experience

  • Eligibility to work in the UK and/or EU with flexibility to travel when needed
  • Degree in related subject e.g. Economics / Finance / EU Affairs / Politics / Law or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in policy and / or engaging with MPs 
  • Thorough understanding of general and EU political processes
  • Good knowledge of EU institutions and the Brussels political landscape
  • Excellent communications, writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to tailor (sometimes complex and technical) information to different stakeholders’ needs
  • Fluency in English at a technical professional level
  • A drive to be challenged
